Pollicott, Mark (Personne interviewée) | CIRM (Editeur )

Mark Pollicott (born 24 September 1959) is a British mathematician known for his contributions to ergodic theory and dynamical systems. He has a particular interest in applications to other areas of mathematics, including geometry, number theory and analysis.

Pollicott attended High Pavement College in Nottingham, where his teachers included the Booker prize winning author Stanley Middleton. He gained a BSc in Mathematics and Physics in 1981 and a PhD in Mathematics in 1984 both at the University of Warwick. His PhD supervisor was Bill Parry and his thesis title The Ruelle Operator, Zeta Functions and the Asymptotic Distribution of Closed Orbits.

He held permanent positions at the University of Edinburgh, University of Porto, and University of Warwick before appointment to the Fielden Chair of Pure Mathematics in Manchester (1996-2004). He then returned to a professorship at Warwick in 2005. In addition, he has held numerous visiting positions including ones at the IHES in Paris, the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, MSRI in University of California, Berkeley, Caltech and Grenoble. He has been recipient of a Royal Society University Research Fellowship, two Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowships and an E.U. Marie Curie Chair. Bourguignon, Jean-Pierre (Personne interviewée) | CIRM (Editeur )

Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon was the Director of the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS) from 1994 till 2013. This international research institute located near Paris, France, was built as the European counterpart of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. He was also the first ERC Panel Chair in Mathematics, for Starting Grants. A mathematician by training, he spent his whole career as a fellow of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). He held a Professor position at École polytechnique from 1986 to 2012. From 1990 to 1992, he was President of the Société Mathématique de France and President of the European Mathematical Society from 1995 to 1998. He is a former member of the Board of the EuroScience organisation (2002-2006) and has served on EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) committees since 2004.

Professor Bourguignon received the Prix Paul Langevin in 1987 and the Prix du Rayonnement Français in Mathematical Sciences and Physics from the Académie des Sciences de Paris in 1997. He is a foreign member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences. In 2005, he was elected honorary member of the London Mathematical Society and has been the secretary of the mathematics section of the Academia Europaea. In 2008, he was made Doctor Honoris Causa of Keio University, Japan, and, in 2011, Doctor Honoris Causa of Nankai University, China.

Konstantin "Kostya" Mikhailovich Khanin is a Russian mathematician and physicist. Khanin received his PhD from the Landau Institute of Theoretical Physics in Moscow and continued working there as a research associate until 1994. Afterwards, he taught at Princeton University, at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge, and at Heriot-Watt University before joining the faculty at the University of Toronto. Khanin was an invited speaker at the European Congress of Mathematics in Barcelona in 2000. He was a 2013 Simons Foundation Fellow. Marc Peigné is the President of the French Mathematical Society (SMF) since June 2013.

The French Mathematical Society, Société Mathématique de France, was founded in 1872 although moves towards the creation of the Society began two years earlier. It was created for defending and promoting mathematics and mathematicians. From the year after the Society was founded the Society has published the Bulletin de Société Mathématique de France which intends to be one of the greatest international journals through its rigorous scientific policy. It also makes sure that it includes a lot of young researchers' work. The Society also publishes Mémoires de Société Mathématique de France. To celebrate its centenary the Society began publishing the journal Astérisque. It is a top-level international journal. It publishes various monographs, renowned seminars or reports of the main international colloquiums .... The articles are chosen for their ability to show a research branch under a new perspective. Each volume deals with only one subject. The whole annual collection covers all the different fields of mathematics. The Revue d'Histoire des mathématiques began publication in 1995. It contains original articles studying the history of mathematics from the 17th century onwards. There are many examples on ongoing cooperation between the Society and the French Applied and Industrial Mathematical Society. Together they promote the public awareness of mathematics, trying to raise the profile of the subject with the general public. They also cooperate on reports on the teaching of mathematics and together provide information on mathematics jobs in teaching and universities. Marc Peigné is the President of the French Mathematical Society (SMF) since June 2013.

Maria Chudnovsky is a professor in the department of mathematics at Princeton University. She grew up in Russia and Israel, studying at the Technion and received her Ph.D. in 2003 from Princeton under the supervision of Paul Seymour. She moved to Columbia after being a Clay Mathematics Institute research fellow and assistant professor at Princeton. Chudnovsky's contributions to graph theory include the proof of the strong perfect graph theorem with Robertson, Seymour and Thomas characterizing perfect graphs as being exactly the graphs with no odd induced cycles of length at least 5 or their complements. Other research contributions of Chudnovsky include co-authorship of the first polynomial time algorithm for recognizing perfect graphs and of a structural characterization of the claw-free graphs.
Maria Chudnovsky is a professor in the department of mathematics at Princeton University.
