Quantum gravity from non-commutative geometry - Barrett, John (Author of the conference) | CIRM H

Multi angle

The talk will discuss progress in modelling quantum spacetime using finite spectral triples. There will be a brief overview of the general ideas and some recent progress. A non-commutative model of a sphere with non-trivial spinor bundles will be presented.

Conventional quantum field theory techniques do not work for extracting physical information from a background-independent quantum theory of gravity. A technique that works is Oeckl's boundary formalism, with semiclassical coherent states on the boundary. I illustrate how this technique has allowed us to compute the lifetime of a black hole in loop quantum gravity. This is an astrophysical relevant quantity that could have observational consequences.[-]

An introduction to the BV-BFV formalism - Cattaneo, Alberto S. (Author of the conference) | CIRM H

Multi angle

The BV-BFV formalism unifies the BV formalism (which deals with the problem of fixing the gauge of field theories on closed manifolds) with the BFV formalism (which yields a cohomological resolution of the reduced phase space of a classical field theory). I will explain how this formalism arises and how it can be quantized.
