What made you choose math? Could you talk about your first mathematical memories? In which environment did you grow up? Let's talk about your research, which areas of mathematics do you focus on? Could you describe your first 'Eureka moment'? You are part of the scientific committee of this week's conference at Cirm. What do you think about the place and about this mathematical week? Besides the mathematician there's a bestselling author. 'Love & Math' was named one of the best Books of 2013 by Amazon and has been published in 18 languages. Why did you want to write this book? Besides the mathematician and the writer there's also a film maker… What messages and emotions did you want to convey through you short film 'Rites of Love and Math'? And how did the mathematical community welcome it…?

Abstract : Edward Frenkel is a professor of mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley, which he joined in 1997 after being on the faculty at Harvard University. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, and the winner of the Hermann Weyl Prize in mathematical physics. Frenkel's research is on the interface of mathematics and quantum physics, with an emphasis on the Langlands Program, which he describes as a Grand Unified Theory of mathematics. He has authored three books and over eighty scholarly articles in academic journals, and he has lectured on his work around the world. His YouTube videos have garnered millions of views.
Frenkel's latest book Love and Math was a New York Times bestseller, has been named one of the Best Books of the year by both Amazon and iBooks, and won the Euler Book Prize from the Mathematical Association of America. It has been published in 18 languages. Frenkel has also co-produced, co-directed and played the lead in the film Rites of Love and Math.
